Happy Birthday MJ!

Happy Birthday MJ!

All around NYC this weekend, there were parties and celebrations to honor Michael Jackson and his music on his birthday. The musical genius and legend will always be one of the greatest for me. His talent is unparalleled and innovation was limitless. To celebrate his birthday, here are my top ten MJ songs

1. Off the Wall - Hands down my favorite MJ song.  I remember when I was 18 years old, I went to this club called, Life, in the city with my friend. It was the summer I graduated high school and this song came on and we went crazy on the dance floor.

When the world is on your shoulder, got to straighten up your act and boogie down...got to leave that 9 to 5 on the shelf and just enjoy yourself.

2. Liberian Girl

Liberian girl...You know that you came..And you changed my world..Just like in the movies...With two lovers in a scene
And she says “Do you love me”...And he says so endlessly “I love you, Liberian girl”

3. Never Can Say Good Bye - Young Michael voice is so much talent and so much flavor all in one small package.

I keep thinking that our problems..Soon are all gonna work out...But there’s that same unhappy feeling...There’s that anguish, there’s that doubt...It’s the same old dizzy hangup..Can’t do with you or without...Tell me why is it so..Don’t wanna let you go

4. Dangerous - I will always remember that MTV performance he did of this song and Billie Jean. The one where he mouthed the words to his sister's song 'You know you want me" at one point.

As she stalked she room..I could feel the aura..of her presence..every head turned...feeling passion and lust

5. They Don't Care About Us - Well all I want to say is, isn't this song relevant for the current times? I like the original but you can hear the entire song with this version and this mix isn't bad at all.

Tell me what has become of my life...I have a wife and two children who love me..I am the victim of police brutality, now I’m tired of being the victim of hate...You’re ripping me off my pride...Oh, for God’s sake...I look to heaven to fulfill its prophecy...Set me free

6. Heaven Can Wait - This one isn't as popular as some of the others on my list but I always loved the lyrics. You must really be in love if you pass up a chance to go to heaven to stay with someone instead.

Tell the angels no, I don’t want to leave my baby alone I don’t want nobody else to hold you..That’s a chance I’ll take...Baby I’ll stay, Heaven can wait

7. PYT - My theme song y'all:)

Nothin’ can stop this burnin’..Desire to be with you...Gotta get to you baby...Won’t you come, it’s emergency...Cool my fire yearnin’..Honey, come set me free...Don’t you know now is the perfect time.....We can dim the lights...Just to make it right

8. You Rock My World - Newer MJ than the rest on the list. I always loved the beat and loved the fact that he decided to collaborate with a hip hop producer for this. Always the innovator.

Girl, I know that this is love...I felt the magic all in the air...And girl, I’ll never get enough...That’s why I always have to have you here.

9. Thriller - I don't think any MJ list can be complete without this song. Obviously the video was groundbreaking on many levels and this is the quintessential 'Halloween' song.

You hear the door slam and realize there’s nowhere...Left to run...You feel the cold hand and wonder if you’ll ever see the sun...You close your eyes and hope that this is just Imagination

10. Love Never Felt So Good - Post-humanous MJ still gave me classic MJ. A song I want to dance to and makes me feel good, pun intended.

Baby, love never felt so good...And I doubt if it ever could....Not like you hold me, hold me

I could go on and one with this list but I decided to stop at 10.  Please do tell me: What's your favorite MJ song and what comes to mind when you think of it?
